English Dub Review: Hensuki: Are You Willing to Fall in Love with a Pervert, as Long as She’s a Cutie? “Operation: Keiki is Master Now!”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Keiki decides to be Sayuki’s master for a day. He brings her to an amusement park while role-playing out an authoritative personality. All the while, he’s attempting to sneak a peek under her skirt, to see if her panties are the same ones that were stolen from him. Even though this is to no avail, they still have a wonderful date and bond. At the end of the night, though, Keiki commands her to lift up her skirt and discovers that she isn’t wearing any underwear at all.

The next day, Koga notices the awkward tension between Keiki and Sayuki and decides to take advantage of it. She makes a show of throwing herself all over Keiki in front of Sayuki, who can’t bring herself to do anything about it. Sayuki avoids Keiki for the rest of the day, despite his efforts to communicate with her. Finally, he meets with her in the club room, where she tells him that she’s been avoiding him because she’s theorized he’s been playing hard to get/trying to “blueball” her (she was very disappointed when he didn’t spank her for running around with no panties.) He cuts to the chase and simply asks her if she stole the panties from his room. She didn’t, but she did steal a pair of his boxers.

Keiki later walks Koga home in the rain, and she invites him in for tea. While rummaging through her panty drawer to see if she’s the culprit, Koga catches him in the act and gleefully blackmails him to be her slave.

Our Take

Was this episode full of Anime Bullshit™? Yes, it was. Was some of it actually funny? Also yes.

While it’s a little weird to watch some weird, publicly-set, kinky role-play happen, the commando bit was genuinely laugh-worthy. It was hysterical to see Keiki’s life flash before his eyes at that moment — and it was unexpected, too. It was one of the rare instances where fan-service can be comedic. Usually in anime, the “funny thing” happens at the expense of the girl, but since Sayuki planned on this happening (and since Keiki got way more than he bargained for) both parties were in on the joke.

That being said, Keiki has definitely developed from episode one. It’s doubtful that episode-one Keiki would randomly start rummaging through a girl’s underwear drawer upon entering her home. This goes hand in hand with the theory that Keiki might be heading himself in the wrong direction in an attempt to solve the mystery. He’s a character who very obviously values love over anything, but could it be possible that getting so wrapped up in the case could make him lose sight of his morals.

Either way, one thing that’s constant is Keiki’s voice acting quality. Even during the most awkward or cringey scenes, Clifford Chapin is there to save the day. The range of his comedic inflections never ceases to be funny — even at the end of this episode, where Keiki submits to Koga, his vocal performance had a new flare. The man is talented, for sure — and, as always, we’re excited to hear more!
