English Dub Review: Fruits Basket “Goodbye”

Overview

Kyo finally tells Tohru what he should have told her in the first place. And we finally hear the true, original zodiac story…

Out Take

Damn! This was a pretty emotionally powerful episode. We finally got the full story behind the origin of the Zodiac bonds and I gotta say, it truly was a moving tale that shakes up everything. Knowing how it all started as a “well-intended” promise between friends but progressively corrupted into a curse/burden through generations was really sad. Not to mention tragic as well, given how the Cat (Which Kyo represents) was wrongly misunderstood and ended up being outcasted by the rest as result.

I kinda wish Akito was better handled though, she sort of just changes personalities too fast, and on a realistic level, people don’t just instantly change overnight. I say this because I am still confused about the reason behind how the Sohma Curse can be broken and the unthinkable decision Akito made…

Overall, I’m amazed that that was the 11th episode. You feel this grand sense of finality with the post-credits scene and yet there are supposedly a couple of episodes left before this season and by extension, this series comes to a close.
