English Dub Review: Fairy gone “Uninvited Music Corps”
Beevee Liscar storms the castle in an exciting episode of Fairy gone.
Overview (Spoilers Below):
Schwartz Diese, the Duke of Hybranz, has staged a revolt. Everyone in Unified Zeskia is on high alert as the news spreads to Dorothea and the prime minister. But it turns out to be a fake! Instead of an actual full-scale revolution, the Duke of Hybranz is just in league with Beevee Liscar, and they’re plotting to take over the imperial castle. Luckily, Free and the rest of the Dorothea agents are quickly on the scene, although it will take all they’ve got to deal with Beevee and his horde.
Our Take:
Last week on Fairy gone, Marlya went through a lot of inner turmoil over the loss of her teammate Ozz. This caused her to revert back to old ways of thinking, and she visited her old employer. Uninvited Music Corps sees her conquering these feelings of inadequacy and fear, but perhaps they were well-placed in this case, because the Dorothea agents have never faced a threat so great as the man called Beevee Liscar.
Marlya’s renewed lease on life is one of the more interesting plot developments in the episode. Coming off of last week’s emotional turmoil, I was expecting her to undergo a slow transition in the weeks to come, but from what I can tell in this episode, she’s pretty much cured of her negative mindset? She tells her teammates that she’s learned, “We can’t blame ourselves for tragedy.” This is nice and all, but I feel like it was a lesson learned so quickly just because of convenience. After a lifetime of thinking she’s a ‘cursed child’, surely she would need more to reverse this mindset than just kind words from Free.
The main plot of the episode deals with the decoy revolt in the Duchy of Hybranz. The Duke, Schwartz Diese, is the man who saved Ray Dawn’s life in the last arc, but now it turns out he was a rebel all along. This turnabout is somewhat cool, but it doesn’t land with the impact it could simply because there are too many side characters to keep track of. What with all the different kingdoms, rulers, and mafia groups, they all start to fade into one big monotonous blob.
One character who definitely does NOT fade away is good ol’ Beevee Liscar. Not only is he one of the original fairy weapon wielders, but he is also a first-rate whistler! The scene where he walked up to the palace, whistling along with the background music accompaniment was pretty exciting. Fighting isn’t the only thing he’s good at, he also relays top-class one-liners, like: “I’ve met pebbles with more courage than you!” and “You don’t even deserve the privilege of shooting at me!”.
This week’s dub has some excellent lines. “I don’t have to run… no one’s ever told me that before.” Marlya’s growth is nice if a little unbelievable. “No human needs that many hours of sleep.” Klara and Serge have some fun camaraderie. “Well, that’s just great.” Free’s reaction is deadpan delicious. “I was expecting them to resist more than this.” Director Auler is a total boss on the battlefield! “Without a change to stimulate development, we stay closed off to the new world.” Wise words, indeed. “Very kick ass, Sir!” Serge definitely has the most incredible line of the episode.
The eleventh episode of Fairy gone raises some interesting topics, such as the pros and cons of having a heavily-regulated fairy trade. Beevee and the revolters would prefer a less-restrictive system, whereas our Dorothea agents are fighting to preserve the status quo. The action sequences were done well for the most part, and I love Beevee even more the more screen time he receives. Apart from a few minor quibbles, this episode of Fairy gone was fairly good.
