English Dub Review: Ensemble Stars “Blooming”

Overview (Spoilers)

It’s the day of the S1 competition and everyone’s nerves are tight. Despite their initial anxiety, the idols of Trickstar are able to work past their fear and deliver an outstanding performance for the students of Yumenosaki Private Academy. And, as expected, they are able to nab a victory and are beginning to forge a reputation at the school. Not everyone is happy, of course. Keito is pretty salty about losing to an obscure idol group, so we can only imagine that he’s plotting something in order to best Trickstar before they become too popular. As for Trickstar, even with a win under their belt, the celebratory mood is quickly sullied by the student council president, Eichi Tenshoin, when he congratulations the group on their victory.

Our Take

Slow but sweet is the best way to describe this week’s episode. Although there wasn’t much going on (aside from the S1 competition), to see Trickstar finally succeed feels like a “zero to hero” moment — especially considering that they won through sheer talent alone, even besting AKATSUKI. The introduction of the student council president was also a nice touch, posing Trickstar to face an even greater opponent than Keito.
