English Dub Review: Dragonball Super “Valiant Mr. Satan, Work a Miracle! A Challenge From Outer Space!”

It’s not the Satan you think it is…

Spoilers Below

After the “Battle of the Gods” saga ended last week, DB Super takes a step back for a funny filler episode where “Hercule Satan” (Yes that’s his actual last name) becomes the focus with only two brief scenes of Vegeta and Gohan doing their own thing.

With Earth no longer in danger, Goku & everyone else resumes their ordinary lives. While having Dinner, Goku asks Chi-Chi if he can go back to training with King Kai only for Chi-Chi to put down his request demanding Goku to go back to his farming job and that she only allowed him last time after he got 100 million but she blew it to help Gohan & Videl support their new child.

The entire episode is primarily spent on Hercule addressing both the media & public about the shit that went down in “Battle of the Gods” by lying through his teeth as usual and tells everyone it was a fierce battle with Beerus up in space but it got even funnier when Hercule momentarily forgets his dreaded opponent’s name and ends up calling him “Beebus” (I collapsed in laughter from that.) Hercule’s fabricated story comically depicts Beerus as a purple demonic bat monster while claiming he attained “God” powers in order to defeat him. However, his self-promotional bullshit gets derailed when a group of blue lion aliens land in the city and reveal that they are ambassadors of the planet “Snak” who wish to thank & reward whoever defeated Beerus. But before Hercule is rewarded, He’s asked to demonstrate his godlike power against planet Snak’s mightiest champion in a sparring match.

Knowing how fucked he is, Hercule quickly hides to safety and attempts to call for help on his cellphone attempting to contact Gohan & Vegeta yet nobody picks up their phones. Goku out of happenstance arrives at the scene in need of Hercule’s help for possibly a new tractor So Hercule decides to smooth talk his way out of it by saying Goku is an “Apprentice of his” and arranges to have Goku fight in his place but just before the fight, Chi-Chi spots him during her shopping spree and Goku immediately leaves to avoid being scolded which puts Hercule at a disadvantage by leaving him to confront the alien champion on his own. Hercule manages to evade all of the attacks, but the fans don’t like it so Hercule then decides to be courageous and fight, but Buu’s Dog “Bee” comes into the arena.

Since the aliens out of sheer dumb luck are just as cat-like in nature as their appearance implies, they’re scared shitless of dogs and run away back to their spaceship and the public deems him a hero again. The Episode comedically ends when Goku realizes that he can’t re-enter his house or eat until he’s done with his farming job and is understandably scared of Chi-Chi to even think about re-entering his own home.

Our Take.

Like most of Akira Toriyama’s previous Arc’s, It’s easy to assume we won’t get to the meat of this story Immediately. For a filler episode, it was surprisingly funny and nice break from everything that’s happened but it’s only a matter of time before Resurrection ‘F’ begins and I can’t wait!
