English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Super “The Ferocious Overwhelming Attack! Gohan’s Last Stand!”

Picking up from the previous episode, Goku and Vegeta continue their intense battle with Jiren which does have its moments, However the focus this time is the battle between Dyspo and Frieza which equally intensifies as The two seem evenly matched, until Frieza breaks off the fight and being the manipulative, murderous douche that he’s often known for, offers to help Dyspo’s Universe 11 Team win the tournament on the condition that they’ll resurrect his ass with the Super Dragon Balls.

Of course, Dyspo turns him down, so Frieza powers up to his Golden form and gains the advantage in the fight, that is until Dyspo sort-of does the same with his own ultimate technique known as “Light Speed Mode”, which basically puts him on the same level as the Flash with that “Speed Force” shit, and overwhelms Frieza. The interesting part about Dyspo’s super-speed is that the Zeno-Twins cannot see anything either. Their “godPad” tablet devices aren’t even powerful enough to see Dyspo or Freiza when they reach blinding speeds and can’t even be picked them up even when they use the slow-motion feature.

It’s here when Gohan and Android 17 realize that Frieza is in danger of being knocked off the stage, so Android 17 distracts Toppo, while Gohan goes to Frieza’s aid. Begrudgingly, Gohan and Frieza take on Dyspo together, with Gohan developing a strategy that in a well-written scene, manages to limit his field of movement. At first, this helps Gohan gain the upper hand, but it can only last for so long when Frieza’s power begins to strain, and their plan nearly goes tits-up before Gohan can land the finishing blow. However, the episode ends on a bittersweet cliffhanger when Gohan in a scene that feels almost reminiscent of Goku’s battle with Raditz, manages to eliminate Dyspo from the tournament, but at a small price…

Our Take

That was an amazing episode from start to finish. Dyspo got eliminated, but a small price had to be paid in doing so. We are getting closer to the end, but the combination of Goku & Vegeta vs Jiren was perfect, but what really stole the show the most was how Gohan has redeemed himself from him being a mid-tier fighter for most of the portion of this battle with his leadership skills.
