English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Super “Limits Super Surpassed! Extreme Ultra Instinct!”

(Possible Spoilers Below)

With the dust settled after the last episode, The Angels from their respective Universe’s look on before the supposedly last two fighters, Goku Vs Jiren. It’s here that Whis points out that despite not knowing where the Frieza is in all this and Android 17 bravely blowing himself up, Goku has no allies to help him and no time to recover from the strain caused by his recently attained Ultra Instinct form, so this will be his last chance to end the battle. As Goku and Jiren resume their battle, Goku at first begins to encounter the same problem he experienced that in his battle against Kefla from Universe 6, and is unable to attack at his full potential. As Goku tries the same trick he used during his battle with Kefla, It goes about as well as you’d expect…

However a good portion of the episode reaches new levels of epic-ness and visuals while other characters talk almost like wrestling commentary, only the sense of urgency is quite high. But the Universe 11 God, Belmod is confident that Goku’s incomplete Ultra Instinct will not be enough to win, but Vegeta makes a keen observation about the Saiyans within this tournament who have been able to surpass their limits and achieve higher levels of power during the Tournament’s proceedings. Of course, this gets under Belmod’s skin as shown when he shouts at Jiren to finish off Goku immediately. But Just when you think Jiren is able to trap Goku on a single floating rock and attack down at him, in an attempt to knock him out, Goku after a flurry of punches manages to land a solid blow on Jiren.

Goku then unleashes all of his power, in a scene that’s simply a wonder to behold as the energy he’s emitting from his body manifested as a galaxy-like nebula encompassing the entire area below the fighting stage. The rest of the episode is heavily devoted to this fight, as Jirens efforts while intimidating, don’t exactly work in his favor when Goku easily overpowers him with a flurry of punches The battle nearly brought a tear to my eye, but while you’d think the fight would end right there with Goku easily being the potential victor at this point, The episode ends when Whis reveals at the bleachers that Goku has completed his “ascension” and has achieved full mastery over the “Ultra Instinct” Power.

Our Take

What can I say, I guess it wasn’t a bad episode. The animation, as well as the OST’s, were absolutely on point. At least we know what’s left of where DB Super’s budget is going for in the finale. Either way, Goku being shirtless with that flashy aura in combination with what Whis & Beerus have said about Goku having mastered both, looked and felt so fucking majestic.

The back of my head wouldn’t let me forget that Frieza is not out of commission yet, he’s still there probably unconscious so he’s obviously going to be the deciding factor on winning the tournament, but I guess we’ll cross that bridge when we get there for the last two episodes.

I have to say that I’m pretty hyped for what potentially comes next as we’re now down to two episodes before DB Super’s Grand Finale!
