English Dub Review: Dragon Ball Super “Final Judgment?! The Ultimate Power of an Absolute God”

Are you a god?

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The start of the episode begins with the right amount of tension, suspense and danger, now cranked up to 11 as everyone fears the worst to come. because two different versions of the genocidal maniac Zamasu have fused into a powerful being which in theory, has Goku Black’s ability to get stronger after each fight in combination with Future Zamasu’s Immortality. As he proceeds to take on Goku and Vegeta, While Future Trunks is tasked with getting Bulma and Future Mai away from danger to get the time machine ready and he couldn’t have picked a better time as Zamasu has a new deadly attack that is a purple light that incinerates anything it touches which results in the poor survivors having to evacuate but are unable to leave until Yabirobe tries to be the hero to draw out Zamasu’s attention. The coast is clear, but the others fear for their lives seeing the new Zamasu.

A good portion of the episode is spent on two separate subplots that slowly converge, as Future Trunks after relocating his mother, later rejoins the battle carrying a handful of Senzu Beans left. Goku & Vegeta take on the Fused Zamasu in a grand spectacle of a fight that even puts Gowasu and the Supreme Kai are in awe of how powerful he’s become. Of course, when you think about it, Zamasu as a villain has achieved something that no other Dragon Ball villain has done before. Even Frieza never achieved his goal for immortality and he was resurrected twice. As Trunks arrives, he sees Vegeta in such bad shape, and powers back up into his bulky Super Saiyan form. He declares that it will be mortals, not Zamasu, who make a new world. Thinking of Mai and the others, he fires off a Gallick Gun, which Vegeta joins in on making it one of the most epic father & son moments the show has done so far.

Surprisingly, Vegeta and Future Trunks’ efforts overpower Zamasu’s attack which would normally vaporize or blow their enemies into hell, but Fused Zamasu still has that pesky “God Mode”. Not to mention at this point, the Saiyans have made Zamasu very angry injuring Vegeta in the process. Just when things seem decidedly bleak with our Saiyan Heroes, Goku steps in and counters one of Fused Zamasu’s blasts with his own Kamehameha. The episode ends on an uncertain yet hopeful note when the two beam-attacks struggle against each other, with Goku refusing to give up.

Our Take

Episode 65 of DB Super was quite intense. Zamasu’s ultra-powerful fusion helps raise the stakes and further reminds the audience that shit just got real. Everything from this point onwards does a great job setting a more serious tone of what’s to come and will in-theory have consequences by the end.

We do get random scenes that leave me wondering if they’ll lead anywhere in later episodes such as a little girl named Maki from the group of survivors who felt the need to retrieve Trunks’s broken sword. What’s she going to do with it? Wouldn’t she put herself in danger at a time like this? But the more pressing matter is how will they be a match against a murderous monstrosity such as Fused Zamasu?

I guess we won’t know until next episode, but I’m compelled to find out!
