English Dub Review: Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba “Something More Important Than Life”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Kyogai is going bananas against Tanjiro utilizing all aspects of his Blood Demon Art, however as Tanjiro gains the upper hand, we learn about Kyogai’s dark past. After Kyogai is killed, Tanjiro snags a sample of the demon’s blood and heads outside. We see Zenitsu holding on to Nezuko’s box getting the unholy shit kicked out of him by Inosuke who is also a demon slayer looking to destroy the box so as to get one more demon out of the way. Tanjiro  sees the abuse that Zenitsu is getting and makes a dash for Inosuke.

Our Take

A slight page out of Inception, but the first-half of the episode is really a decent amount of character-building embedded upon character flashbacks and self-inflection by way of Tanjiro. The finish on the fight scene was fun, but I hate battles cut in half because it marginalizes the importance and is a cheap tactic for cliffhangers. In any event, the second half of this week’s episode rimmed with emotion and was truly enjoyable, only for it to end much in the same way this series always does. I am sold on Zenitsu now and am rooting for him moving forward.
