English Dub Review: Demon Lord, Retry! “Demon Lord’s Handiwork”

Overview:

Kunai requests his reward for fending off the demons.

Our Take:

It’s amazing how much this show can be improved when it doesn’t focus on the harem aspect, huh!

Kunai has since won the good will of the people, but he still has his own machinations that he wants to advance. On one side, he wants to know more about the goddesses and why he was transported to this world, so in bartering with the eldest holy maiden, he gets access to the library. From her perspective, this is an extremely dangerous situation, letting a potential enemy know about the goddess that gives her powers. At the same time, Kunai is currently seen as a hero, and is asking for a relatively moderate reward for his service, so it’s not really something she can argue with. It’s a tough position for her to be in.

Kunai, on the other hand, is coming out pretty well. His hot springs plan seems to be going well so far, and this episode focuses on him setting up the facilities. The villagers will be the staff, and that will bring money into their small village. Instead of being solely farming, they will instead provide services. He does get some minor pushback, considering that he mentions that he will have to demolish their homes in order to build the hot springs. Hopefully he will rebuild their houses, or else he could very easily have a peasant uprising…

He also sets up a medical facility with Kirino, who he instructs to charge accordingly to class status. The poor will pay very little for the services offered, meanwhile the rich will get charged an extreme amount for the same treatment. As Kirino notes, it’s the exact opposite of the empire’s philosophy, which works more like this world. In this sense, Kunai being the demon king isn’t just about the power that he wields, but because he has the potential to revolutionize this fantasy world with the knowledge that he brings. I don’t know if the show will actually explore that aspect, but it would be something interesting to think of. This world, running off magic, focuses highly on combat prowess, but that’s not the only threat out there.

We also have a new henchmen from one of the other games! You know what, if they’re going to force me to watch a harem story, I hope he falls for Kunai too.
