English Dub Review: Demon Lord, Retry! “Dancing Swindler and the Giant Gold Coin”

Overview:

Kunai goes out in search of funding.

Our Take:

Kunai’s schemes start to come together. He is going back to the businesses that he established good relations with, such as the auctioneer and the high-end clothing store. Because he made good on his first promises, he’s become a trusted customer, but also someone that they’re keen to keep on their side. Kunai has created a consistent line of trading partners, that will both create intrigue in the items that he brings to the fantasy world, and can manufacture clothing that wouldn’t normally be found. In this case, the bunny outfits are what’s up for order, and it doesn’t seem as if there’s an equivalent this time around. Luckily, he also has money to throw around, and having discerned the value of the fantasy currency means that he’s able to conduct proper business instead of just guessing.

The village has been properly repurposed to have the hot springs, and the residents seem to be able to use them too. This makes them look a lot healthier, for even if they’re still working in the fields, they’re at least able to have the luxury of taking a warm bath afterward. The older residents will serve as waitstaff in the hot springs (by utilizing the playboy bunny outfits) and the younger residents make sure the grounds remain clean. Even though the older residents aren’t too keen on the outfits, they are willing to go along with Kunai’s schemes because their life has drastically improved.

The real MVP this week is Kirino’s medical facility. She gets her first customer in the form of a famous soldier that Madam brings with her, who had lost his eyesight in a clash with a magical creature. Even though Kirino doesn’t use her ace in the hole when it comes to medical techniques, she is able to heal his ailing eyesight. That not only puts her skills as something to be noted, but shows them off to Madam as well. The soldier, being a patron of Madam, certainly has a name and a title (although we nor Kunai recognize it) which means that he is well known in the military, despite being retired. This could come in handy later on, especially if Kunai needs some help in mobilizing a military force against the Satanists.

Honestly, this show needs to stick to the politics. It’s interesting trying to see Kunai try to balance it, and I kind of wish the focus on the show was that instead of everything else.
