English Dub Review: Classroom of the Elite “There are Two Kinds of Lies; One concerns an Accomplished Fact, the Other concerns a Future Duty”

Don’t lie.

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Classroom of the Elite continues with another obnoxiously long-titled episode, albeit one that’s entertaining and filled with drama. Resuming with the Sakura scandal, she finds her mailbox full of photos of her. With a delay in the ruling, Suzune and Ayanokoji lure the three class C students into a trap. The purpose: renegotiate the current hearing and avoid Sudo’s expulsion.

Like with previous episodes, this concentrates on a theme. In this case, lying.

Our Take:

On the one hand, Classroom of the Elite presents complex situations and analyzes motivations from several angles. But often the monologues are pretty pretentious. Sometimes it’s heavy, and others it’s pretty basic material.

The voice acting is solid. Notably, I enjoy Ayanokoji’s narration. I also appreciate the school dynamic which is cold and calculating. However, this show, like other episodes, has its ups and downs. It drags in places, but the moments of excitement do pay off well.

The artwork is intriguing. The eyes are great with vivid resonance. However, there’s a bit of fan service which seems unnecessary. Ultimately, it’s a mixed bag of a series so far, and this episode is a middle of the road entry.
