English Dub Review: CARDFIGHT!! VANGUARD WILL+DRESS “An Invitation to the Future”

Overview:

Raika receives an invitation and has a choice to make. Meanwhile, Urara misses her stop and finds herself alone. Until Megumi takes her to the nearby amusement park, that is.

Our Take:

I’ll be the first to tell you that I have zero experience with the Cardfight!! series. A lot of the card shows never really appealed to me such as Yugi-Oh and Cardcaptor Sakura. So this will be my first experience with this type of genre and I have to say that so far I’m not impressed. It has an interesting hook to be sure but so far it has yet to grab me.

The animation is solid but nothing to write home about yet. I looked at the voice cast at the end of the episode and I had only heard of one of the cast. Not saying that we need big names to have good voice acting (that’s how we get new voice actors after all) but when the voice acting was noticeably bad, that could be your reason. The tournament hook for the characters could be interesting but this entire first episode was explaining a card game that I still don’t quite grasp the rules to yet. Here’s to hoping for some improvement as this one continues.
