English Dub Review: Bungo Stray Dogs “Jailbreak”

Overview (Spoilers Below):
Atsushi and Kyouka convince Mushitaro to escape the vault with them. However, while escaping, the bank is surrounded by the Special Operations Division, led by Sakaguchi Ango (Michael Yurchak), a member of the Seventh Agency.

Our Take:
The Hunting Dogs have become even more dangerous for the Detective Agency, with its fifth member revealed to be Michizo Tachihara, the Port Mafia’s former member. Even worse is that Tachihara wants revenge against Yosano for the death of his older brother. With Yosano’s fate not being shown at the end of last week’s episode, we could assume that her journey has reached its devastating end.
Until we know for sure, we have another episode showcasing more of Atsushi and Kyouka going on the run from the authorities to keep us distracted. In case you can’t tell by the episode’s title, the plot consists of them attempting a jailbreak by busting Mushitaro out of the government bank. However, their escape is no easy task, as they are hunted down by the Special Operations Division. Leading the charge is Sakaguchi Ango, the leader of the Seventh Agency, known for erasing crime scenes. Atsushi and the others successfully escaped using the vanishing act Mushitaro learned from his author friend, Yuko Mizo, but that wasn’t enough. Ango was able to track Atsushi and the others down using his “Discourse on Decadence” ability, which allows him to read memories from objects.
Thankfully, Ango is later revealed to be on the Detective Agency’s side, as he helped them escape from capture. Ango is also Dazai’s messenger, who sent the message to Atsushi a while ago. While hiding out, Mushitaro agrees to help the Detective Agency by telling them the Decay of Angels’ next part of their plan. The terrorist organization plans to erase the entire state by writing the other half of the same page they used to frame the Detective Agency. However, their only downside is that they must wait until the next full moon to execute their devious plot, which is ten days away.
The stakes have never been higher for the Detective Agency, and “Jailbreak” is another reason why. Amid its additional information on the terrorists’ intentions and the government, we got another engaging dose of thrills regarding the prison break and its humor. Mushitaro faking a stomach cramp only to be foiled by Kyouka was the episode’s highlight regarding its comedy. With the Decay of Angels stalled because of the page’s condition, a glimmer of hope is shining bright for Atsushi and the agency, but will they be able to find them in time before the full moon?
