English Dub Review: Bleach: Thousand-Year Blood War “Wrath as Lightning”

Overview:

Quilge Opie uses his power to imprison Ichigo inside the Garganta; as he tries to break free, Ichigo begins to hear, through his Soul Phone, the screams of the Soul Reapers falling to the enemy’s onslaught.

Our Take:

Sometimes I think shonen anime use flashbacks too much, but sometimes they use them perfectly. As we have learned the Quincys are capturing people’s Bankai and using them against them. Having dealt with Chojiro’s Bankai before Yamamoto knew how to deal with it and boy, did he. I didn’t expect to see a Quincy get roasted like that, but that was wild.

Bleach coming back has been such a hit that I hope it spurs other anime studios to realize they can return to a show at any time. I have so much fun watching this one that it’s always over in a flash which you could say is both good and bad. Ichigo’s screaming at not being able to help was haunting. You feel for the guy but in a way, you feel extra bad for the Quincys he’s going to face when he gets out. There is no one in the world that wants to be on the receiving end of Ichigo’s wrath.
