English Dub Review: Black Clover “The New Magic Knight Captain Conference”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

Outside of Asta’s current predicament, repairs are being done to the Clover Kingdoms capital city while all the captains gather for a celebration and hold a meeting where Julius and the Bulls explain their current situation with Megicula, the Heart Kingdom and Loropechika’s plans for war against the Spade Kingdom. Julius then orders them to train all their respective squad members for the next 6 months. But given the aftermath of how the Elf-Arc went down (which was arguably an international incident that affected everyone), tough decisions had to be made…


Our Take

This was more of an exposition-dump episode but not anything amazing. At most this felt like a filler episode, but at least it’s keeping with the over-all plot. I also like how they’re still addressing Asta being on probation basically and not just throwing all of that legal courtroom bullshit out the window for the sake of the plot.

I had a feeling William and some of the other captains would feel guilty for what they’ve done, as even William knows he got off lightly. Many people complained (rightfully) why he didn’t just get expelled or jailed after his treason, so it was also good to see the show touching upon little things like that. What also surprised me more was to see Poizot again. I was wondering where he got to but seems like some things will never change. At least he did something useful for rebuilding the capital.

Overall, while this felt like another filler episode, yet it still managed to remain interesting by seeing the fun & dynamic interactions between the captains and how this upcoming Arc against Megicula will affect everyone outside of Asta’s circle.
