English Dub Review: Black Clover “The Eyes in the Mirror”

(Possible Spoilers Below)

In the last episode, I was left with the assumption that the entire Black Bulls crew was instantly defeated but not killed. But it turns out, some were knocked out within the dream world called the “Glamour world” by an Elf named “Reve” who’s possessed a Magical Captain named “Dorthy”. Upon confronting the Bulls, she explains that she has full control of other people’s dreams. Vanessa is relieved to find Rouge can still use her magic to keep them alive, while Sally uses her extensive magical knowledge to combine the Bulls magic into new attacks as well as working out exactly how Reve’s magic functions. The Bulls become drowsy and Reve reveals that anyone trapped in her dream world for long periods will eventually fall into an eternal magical coma.

Sally discovers a loop-hole within the limits of her dream powers that anything Reve imagines in the dream world will physically appear, which means the same rules can apply to everyone else also who’s also trapped, thus giving them a chance to defend themselves. With this knowledge in mind, Sally tricks Reve into imagining and accidentally creating exits leading back to the real world. Meanwhile within the Shadow Palace Yami and Jack become lost as they are manipulated by the elf Baval through the use of “Dice Magic” to warp reality. Drowa and Eclat try to kill Asta, but his ass is saved by Gordon, Grey, and Henry.

Despite activating his demon/black form, Asta is paralyzed by Eclat but is saved again when Henry transforms part of the base’s rubble into a flying bull. As he is only alive because of the magic power he took from his friends, But after a well-established flashback that delves into Henry’s past and the tragedy of his powers, the episode ends when Henry decides to potentially make the ultimate sacrifice to keep Asta alive long enough to give both Drowa and Eclat a magical ass-kicking.

Our Take

I never paid attention to Dorothy before, and I must say even though she’s controlled, her powers are trippy as hell and amazing. speaking of amazing, The possessed Gauche is also doing the most, which means the real Gauche didn’t use his powers to their potential in terms of fighting ability.

This episode was good not as great as the others though. I’m kinda annoyed that Asta seems to be the only one fighting while the others mostly watch unless the story demands it. It was also refreshing to see a little bit about Henry’s past which was quite sad but kinda shows how much the Black Bulls mean to him.

Next episode should be a big one with as we see what happens next with those stuck in that dream-world and what Henry’s choice could possibly entail
