English Dub Review: Black Clover “Spatial Mage Brothers”

Overview (Spoilers Below)

The episode begins when the Elf Baval, whom has currently possessed the Golden Dawn member “David Swallow”, and proceeds to threaten Kirsch, Mimosa, and Ein, with a demoralizing speech that points out how the elves have claimed dominance to most of their land along with the fact that Langris, possessed by the most twisted elf, Ratri, has made it to the Clover King. It’s here when the Clover as sleazy as he comes across, King arrogantly declares he will defeat the Possessed Langris with his Royal Magic but is easily made quick work by Ratri’s hands. As a direct continuation to a previous episode, Finnes is saved from Ratri by Finral while Yami throws Finral’s parents through a portal to safety with the promise that they’ll both survive, While Jack cuts through the castle wall, sending the King falling to safety.

It’s here when Jack figures out a way to cancel Ratri’s automatic defense when Jack and Yami almost knock Ratri unconscious but he goes on a rampage instead. Finral recalls that he and Langris were never in a situation where they had to fight each other as Finral always ran away, and now that Ratri is distracted, Finral succeeds in teleporting him directly in front of him and Finral hilariously socks him one. It’s while it’s greatly hinted that the two made up after entering Lagris’s mind, it’s unclear if Ratri will further take the wheel in Lagris’s body even after the knockout.

We then cut to the Elves at the floating dungeon where they reveal reveals that due to an unknown reason Licht’s memories have not fully returned and he has once more lays dormant, but it’s here when the Elf known as “Patry” reveals the final stage of their plan, to place a final magic stone in a tablet deep within the castle, in the hopes of causing mass genocide towards humanity and making all the elf reincarnations permanent, and the episode ends when we figure out who actually owns the stone, but the reveal makes the twist itself come full circle…

Our Take

Yami and Jack as a team once again stole the show, and it’s crazy how easily they both can cut through Ratri’s magic. It was also nice to see Finral finally being able to get his brother back. But it only raises more questions than answers. Asta’s new sword which can bring back people from their elf form but then I saw them pointy ears and realized he only brought Langris’ consciousness upfront. Still, very impressive for a Black Bulls’ transport person and the punch even felt epic too.

Overall an ok episode. The stakes are now raised since we now know what the Elve’s endgame is, along with a plot-McGuffin of sorts for both sides to worry about, there’s now a sense of urgency in the mix of the proceedings but it remains to be seen as the episodes further progress to this ongoing battle between all the Magic Schools within Black Clover and the Reincarnated Elves.
