English Dub Review: Asteroid in Love Episode 7, 8, 9

Overview:

With the transition in leadership set in stone, a lot of things change around the club.

Our Take:

These episodes continue the idea of growing up and finding your place in the world. The two senpai are working on graduating and exams, and the rest of the club has to move on. In fact, going on into adulthood is a complicated thing on multiple levels; growing into all different facets. A few of the girls feel that they’re troubled by the fact that things are changing, and a few others feel the absence growing fast.

As the new president of the club, Inose has a lot of misgivings about her presidency, and her capability to rule. Now that she has a position, she is unsure that she is living up to her senpai’s shoes, and she is trying to make some activities work. The first encounter she has as an extracurricular is to teach some children stargazing, which goes fairly well for the most part. While it has a shaky start at first, with kids not being interested, but slowly, the event becomes a success. Specifically, not just because the girls are good with kids and know how to teach them, but because they take extra care to include even the people who wouldn’t be interested in the first place. It’s not just sharing knowledge, but enthusiasm as well. Inose also decides to try out for the earth science olympiad to prove her worth overall, but ends up failing the test because they’re all subjects she’s bad at. Despite that, she still made a friend. While she is very frightened starting out, even if she ends up failing, at least she did them. There’s a lot of importance in that.

Manaka ends up dropping a bomb that she’d be moving away with her father, and that drastically shifts the dynamics in the club. School graduation is anticipated, but a sudden move is different. That ends up being a kind of mourning, because there is no time to prepare. Most importantly, it’s breaking apart their dream that they were so certain in– or maybe not anymore. It’s also not an issue the two of them really solve on their own, but rather Konohata’s older sister proposes a different idea. Sometimes, a twist of fate can be helpful as well.

Also, the episodes have a cute ending! Manaka and Konohata are super cute together, and them coming to live together isn’t just cute, it makes sense. They share a dream at this point, and they are closer as a pair than anyone else. Now they can be even more of a duo as ever. It’s also pretty romantic, I must say. The two end up promoting the club, and there’s a lot of hope that even through changes, the girls will manage to find their way.
