English Dub Review: Actors: Songs Connection “Concerto”

Within the Canzone Karaoke bar which is the part-time job of Saku, Sosuke and Uta begin to have a petty argument over the difference of music genres. Although Saku, who was overwhelmed between the boards, consulted Hinata, and later sees Narugo and Azabu of the Japanese Studies also clash with each other’s beliefs, but came up with an idea to prove their correctness in the poem by reversing the order of the songwriting and composition. In an exercise of frustration, a song is (haphazardly) created with both of them making up, but with Saku being the mediator between the two.

Our Take

Compared to the weirdness of the previous episode, it’s nice to finally see a level of seriousness contrast to the filler/weird episodes of these effeminate looking dudes singing. Sosuke and Uta’s argument was easily one of the more interesting parts of this story and it’s an argument that realistically happens between people with different tastes in music, movies or otherwise as what’s good for one is not for the other.

Also, this kinda feels like a filler episode because if this series had actual stakes, I don’t really see them here. What Saku intends as their patch-up is to reverse their roles to do the opposite of their usual, with Sosuke creating the music while Uta makes lyrics.

I wonder what’s their goal and intentions on the “Actors” that is the trio. This only raises further questions that I hope are touched up and hopefully answered in later episodes.
