English Dub Review: A Sister’s All You Need “If Only A Miracle Would Happen”

Writers do many strange things to get natural and engaging writing. Today is just the comedy in those awkward moments.

When one hears the title “A Sister’s All You Need” I’m sure most have a fair impression of what they should expect. Especially with the recent influx of anime that have included the sister but not REALLY sister. There is a clear fanbase that like those sort of characters and kink and this show in no way tries to demean or put down those who do. There are jokes made at our main characters’ expense but this isn’t a show about a writer and his little sister. As I watch I see the story of several sorts of creative writers and this is the story of their means for approaching their novels and their relationships in real life. It’s definitely an involving concept for those in the writing style of short novels in particular and as a writer myself, this has become one of the most enjoyable shows to watch. Despite the show still containing a lot of the forced attributes that you see in a lot of the low-grade animes.

OVERVIEW (Spoilers Below)

We move away from Itsuki this week and begin to characterize the rest of the cast, specifically Nayuta and Miyako. The episode cleverly mixes a bare-bones flashback and in-person discussion between the two so we as the audience begin to compare and contrast their lives before the show and what we are seeing currently. It infuses a lot of intrigue into the narrative by giving us many new angles to see these two girls from to show off their likable natures while also withholding a lot of detail to entice viewers to continue watching. The writing style of A Sister’s All You Need mirrors the characters’ reactions to each other’s writing. Devoted creativity and drive.

A theme that is growing stronger from the pilot is how each of the characters is clawing their way up to have their work be recognized or achieve a high standard of notoriety. A very simple wish for many people which also makes it wildly identifiable. It’s our sister loving Itsuki who seems to stray from the path and in turn draw these people to him. While there is a want to have his work recognized Itsuki is written to be more devoted to making his little sister novel perfect rather than worrying about the result of money and prestige. This draws Nayuta to him connecting with his work and now writing as well to obtain his devotion. This drew Miyako to him who she admired for his never-ending devotion and success, now opening her subplot of finding a goal within her own life. Finally, but not fully explored yet, Haruto is drawn in by Itsuki’s success but sees Itsuki as a blueprint to help make himself and his writing more popular. It’s a clashing of wants from all three of them and that is beautiful to see. It creates such natural funny and flowing scenes as all the characters talk and discuss like lifelong friends. Even when the show gets a bit sexual it is almost tongue and cheek with it, removing any awkwardness and allowing it to be charming.

OUR TAKE

It is such a good funny show. If you are of a creative mindset I think you will connect well with the characters and find the adventures of these writing doofuses charming. It’s paced beautifully, the music surprisingly adds an atmospheric element and the setting and tone is so down to earth I can’t help but find it relatable. Even though I don’t have a little sister fetish. Watch A Sister’s All You Need, it is becoming my top anime of the season.
