The Devil Wears Prada Hop On The “Puppet Music Video” Bandwagon!

Music, she’s all about trends. One chick in the 80s comes out with puffy hair and a corset and it infested the rock/metal scene for damn near a decade. Though wildly popular then we’re now stuck with piss poor musical acts like Motionless In White and Black Veil Brides who try to keep the 80s style while not focusing one iota worth of time on actually learning to compose proper songs. Musicians are here to produce music that is an extension of their souls. Rockstars are here to crush pussy, look cool, gather a big paycheck and fade into obscurity. This world needs drastically less rockstars.

Sorry, got off on a bit of a tangent there. I had some time to kill a few days back so I decided to watch a live stream of the Vans Warped Tour kickoff show from Houston, Texas. I’ve been a lifelong Warped Tour attendee and was curious to see what the sets from some of my favorite bands would look like. The Devil Wears Prada hit the stage with a ton of intensity and energy, something I had forgotten since I haven’t seen them live in a few years. I got really excited and decided that my “Warped Journey” would continue.

And now here’s where the previous two paragraphs intertwine. In the beginning I started with trends. Then I mentioned The Devil Wears Prada. The Day after the live stream it was made aware to me that TDWP had just recently put out a new music video involving puppets, which seems to be a trend as of late. We’ve reported on father/daughter duo Sockweb producing a video involving puppets a few months back. Does this mean that puppets have started to make a home in the genre of Metalcore? I really hope so because The Devil Wears Prada have single-handedly shown how effective they are in the storytelling process.

I don’t want to spoil the video for anyone but needless to say that the video has a bit of a twist ending. The fisherman who is the focus of the video (and possible Rob Caggiano of Anthrax doppelgänger) is truly more human and more believable than most actors in the game. His range of emotions and ability to convey them are a breath of fresh air and a credit to the puppeteer and the staff who wrote the video. The ending of the video is a bit of a twist and really tugs at the heartstrings, so you might want to mentally prepare yourself for that.

Check out The Devil Wears Prada as well as 70+ other bands on this years Warped Tour whenever it hits a town near you.
