DC Entertainment News & Rumors: Suicide Squad “Hell to Pay” ; Superman “Red Son” ; Freedom Fighters: The Ray Season Two ; Gotham By Gaslight

There’s a bunch of news & rumors regarding DC Entertainment’s plans for animation over the next couple of years, so let’s get into it!

First up, rumors are circulating that if Gotham By Gaslight is successful, Bruce Timm wants to tackle Superman: Red Son next as an animated adaptation of another Elseworlds imprint. In Red Son, Superman’s rocket ship lands on a Ukrainian collective farm rather than in Kansas, an implied reason being a small time difference (a handful of hours) from the original timeline, meaning Earth’s rotation placed Ukraine in the ship’s path instead of Kansas. Instead of fighting for “… truth, justice, and the American Way”, Superman is described in Soviet radio broadcasts “… as the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.” His “secret identity” (i.e. the name his adoptive parents gave him) is a state secret.

No official word as yet been released for this, but perhaps big premiere news for Gotham By Gaslight might be the type of thing that moves Red Son forward.

That news being that Gotham by Gaslight will be having its LA Premiere February 5th, 2018 at 7pm PST.

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight takes place at the turn of the century as America’s continued industrial revolution is to be showcased at a World’s Fair hosted by Gotham City. But while the world prepares to witness the glittery glory of Gotham’s technological advances, there is a killer loose in the city’s darkest shadows. Preying on the city’s women, this killer is as precise as he is cruel. As Police Commissioner James Gordon tries to calm the fears of Gotham’s citizens regarding the butcher called Jack the Ripper, the masked vigilante Batman enacts his own detective work – with the help of confident, capable Selina Kyle – to stop the Ripper’s murderous spree. Witness a world in flames as the notorious serial killer’s controlled savagery meets the calculated stealth of the Dark Knight.

Batman: Gotham By Gaslight will be distributed February 6, 2018, by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and DVD. The film will be available to own on Digital HD starting January 23, 2018.

As it turns out, Red Son might not be the only alternate universe that DC Entertainment is thinking about giving you more of. That’s because The Ray star Russell Tovey has been touting the fact that season one of Freedom Fighters: The Ray is CW Seed’s hottest series right now of which gives him confidence that a second season will be ordered. Freedom Fighters: The Ray follows a reporter who gains light-based powers after being exposed to a genetic light bomb. Last but not least, the first trailer for Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay has been released a week after the Christian Slater as “Deadshot” led voice cast had been announced.

The film sees Amanda Waller’s secret team Task Force X (consisting of Deadshot, Bronze Tiger, Killer Frost, Captain Boomerang, Harley Quinn and Copperhead) sent to retrieve a powerful mystical object that they will risk their lives to steal. Unfortunately for the Suicide Squad, there are other villains who want the prize, and they must win a race to get it in order to stay alive.

Suicide Squad: Hell to Pay is coming April 10, 2018 on Ultra HD Blu-ray Combo Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack & DVD from Warner Bros. Home Entertainment.
