DC Animated Issues First-Look At “Superman: Red Son”

For all you fans of modern socialism, DC Animated has issued a first look still of their upcoming feature-length adaptation of Superman: Red Son.

In Red Son, Superman’s rocket ship lands on a Ukrainian collective farm rather than in Kansas, an implied reason being a small time difference (a handful of hours) from the original timeline, meaning Earth’s rotation placed Ukraine in the ship’s path instead of Kansas. Instead of fighting for “… truth, justice, and the American Way”, Superman is described in Soviet radio broadcasts “… as the Champion of the common worker who fights a never-ending battle for Stalin, socialism, and the international expansion of the Warsaw Pact.” His “secret identity” (i.e. the name his adoptive parents gave him) is a state secret.

The Elseworlds tale follows along the lines of Gotham By Gaslight where DC Comics tales feature popular heroes and villains in alternate universes. In this case, it’s Superman being raised in a socialist society brilliantly penned by the great Mark Millar. The animated film will release in 2020 and will feature a cast that includes Amy Acker, Anna Vocino, Diedrich Bader, Greg Chun, Jim Ward, Jason Isaacs, Jason Spisak, Jim Meskimen, Paul Williams, Phil Lamarr, Phil Morris, Roger Craig Smith, Sasha Roiz, Tara Strong, Travis Willingham, Vanessa Marshall, William Salyers, and Winter Zoli.
