COVID-19: Voice Actor Daman Mills Being Quarantined-Upcoming Simuldubs To Be Voice Matched

In the world of animation, other than a bunch of festivals and shows being canceled or postponed, there has been no discernible delays in upcoming animated series being released as a result of the coronavirus. Writers room meetings are being run with video conference rooms, people can do all of their production responsibilities from home, and voice actors can be recorded if they have access to a vocal studio separate from TV production facilities or if they have the proper equipment in-house to do so. That said, this is a virus, and while the success rate for survival is very very high, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t be taking any and all precautions to prevent the spread of the virus, especially when you are showing symptoms.

Voice actor Daman Mills is the first known case from the anime community to announce any sort of delay as a result of coronavirus-like symptoms. He has announced on Twitter that his upcoming simuldub recordings for Funimation will instead be done with a substitute and that he will take part in a 14-day self quarantine as he recovers from illness which sounds like mwould have affected his acting abilities regardless of his proximity to the available tech in which to record his lines. Furthermore, you have to think about the well-being of the producers taking part.

Fortunately, it sounds like Daman is on the other side of his illness and he notes that he’s feeling better. The very busy actor can be heard in series like Beastars which just dropped it’s first season on Netflix and My Hero Academia.
