Comics Review: Spongebob Comics #51

Spoilers Below

Game Masters

Spongebob and Patrick are on line to get their board game signed by the creator, but when Patrick forgets something, some other dude in line doesn’t allow him to come back to cut in line. Pat can’t go, so Spongebob challenges this kid to a game and we learn about a rule Spongebob invented that allows you to keep playing. When the game creator hears about it, he kinda likes the idea and throws out the rule book.

When You Wish Upon a Pat

Pat wishes to become made of chocolate (did Fred Durst write this?) and Spongebob helps to make Pat’s dream come true. Unfortunately, being chocolate means you can’t move, so Spongebob helps Pat ‘crash’ back to normal.

For Amusement Only

Spongebob builds a pinball machine for his boss, but the Krusty Krab owner doesn’t like despite the added foot traffic it because it’s free and Spongebob had to use kitchen appliances to build it.

Late One Night

Spongebob’s up late playing games which CAN be dangerous.

Serpents and Sealords

Spongebob and Patrick get Squidward interested in a table-top game ala Dungeons & Dragons, and the usually cranky restaurant greeter actually starts to dig all of the adventures. So much so that he starts cosplaying and spending time with his fellow co-workers. Eventually Spongebob learns that popping bubbles with his eyes is more appealing which means…game over.

Our Take

If you are a fan of Spongebob playing games, this is the issue for you. Fans of traditional board games like Life? BAM first story. Like D&D? BAM last story. Throw in a couple of random shorts and a fantastic full page look at what a Spongebob pinball machine would look like, and this month’s issue puts in a solid performance.
