Overview:

“The Imposters” by Patrick Mceown is a longer segment, featuring Finn and Jake discovering they have a set of imposters in Sandwicham. However, the townspeople think that Finn and Jake are the imposters and adamantly defend the imposters. They leave, concerned about what to do when they come across the imposters. The two of them decide to make a setup where they force the imposters to be heroic, and it works. The brigands attacking the village reveal that the imposters are too nice to be brigands, so they no longer want them back. In turn, the imposters suppose that the only choice left to them is heroism.

Next is “Banana Man’s Fantastical Amazi-fying Race Against Death” by Nick Cron-Devico and Alexandra Beguez. Sybil is dying, and Banana Man has to drive to the next town to get her a proper tank, but Death is on his heels. He tries going faster, but it splashes water everywhere. After panicking, he realizes that by taping up the windows, they can turn the car into a pool so Sybil can breathe. It works, and it also turns out Death wasn’t after them— he was just going to the same pool party that they were.

Last up is “A Day With Ice Finn” by Marumiya, a comic without words. It takes place in a world where Finn wears the Ice Crown and shows Ice Finn’s adventures parallel to normal Finn. Even without the Ice Crown, both Finns manage to have a good time.

Our Take:

This collection was pretty good! Banana Man is cute and short. Ice Finn is a comic without words, and that’s always hard to pull off. Still, I think Marumiya managed to do a good job conveying the story and parallels regardless. Imposters are in the vein as most Adventure Time stories and have a page that delves into an accurately hits upon what makes people want to create fake attention for themselves.

There are fewer stories in the issue this time, but they’re all strong enough to warrant more pages. A fun issue, worth picking up.
