Comic Review: RWBY/Justice League #1-4

Taking place before the events of RWBY Volume 3. Team RWBY within each issue encounters Remnant-specific renditions of DC’s beloved Justice League members with Issue#1 consisting of Ruby and Yang meeting Superman, Issue #2, with Blake meeting Wonder Woman and Issue #3 with Weiss meeting a Bat-Faunus version of Bruce Wayne (Subtle…). As each of their stories contains a separate adventure that slowly unravels into a much larger storyline by the 4th issue and based on the front cover of issue #1 We have yet to meet the rest of the League with the 4th Issue’s ending sharing a beyond blatant hint on who they’ll meet next…

Much like the RWBY comics that were published by DC years ago, we once again have returning writer of the RWBY comics Marguerite Bennett involved while the artist goes by the name “Aneke” whose art style in the first four issues carefully replicates the RWBY comics that were previously made. Given the dress Weiss is wearing, I was a bit thrown off at the timeline at first since the dress Weiss wears is her character design from Vol.4 which is dramatically different than what she wore in Volumes 1-3 of the show itself.

At the very least they do a good job explaining the clever use of Semblances that apply to certain DC Heroes that exist within the RWBY Universe and attempt to make sense to some extent since last time I checked, Aliens and and Amazons don’t exactly exist in Remnant. The presence of these New Grimm has caused a shortage of Hunters and Huntresses to go missing which felt like an excuse for Team RWBY to be in a less crowded school during this time of crisis.

These 4 issues are not a bad start and each of these RWBY Renditions of DC’s Trinity (Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman) seemed fun to read in terms of character interactions. But given that this story is currently ongoing at the time of this review, I look forward to reading more of it when it comes out!
