Comic-Con@Home: SYFY’s TZGZ

It ain’t easy bein’ TZGZ.

SYFY WIRE’s The Great Debate’s Baron Vaughn moderates this panel showcasing the returning and upcoming programming for their new-ish adult animation block, TZGZ, along with its mascot, High Wizard. First on the docket is Devil May Care, a new series from Doug Goldstein where the devil (Alan Tudyk) enlists a newly dead millennial (Asif Ali) to help him build a better PR image. All three are ready to talk about the show. Goldstein wanted to play around with role of heaven and hell in the show, Tudyk thinks Hei Hei from Moana would be a good assistant for the devil, and Ali talks about how his experiences as a social media person helped him prepare for his character.

Next is Wild Life, where animals have totally taken over society after the apocalypse and must come together to mixed results. Creator Adam Davies, Claudia O’Doherty (who plays Marnie, a dolphin), and Reggie Watts (who plays Darby, a koala), are up this time to discuss it. They watch a clip about some of the characters planning to storm a mall full of zombified humans for water, which shows how the post-apocalyptic aspect fits into the comedy, as well as getting to know all the characters’ distinct comedy bits and personalities.

Then, we look at Magical Girl Friendship Squad, a parody of the Magical Girl anime genre. Creator Kelsey Stephanides, Anna Akana (Daisy), Quinta Brunson (Alex), and Anna Gastire (Nut) are on the panel. We see a clip showing how Nut, the magical mascot character, is clearly not up to date with the goings on in the world and how Daisy and Alex aren’t completely sold on her optimism. Daisy and Alex also apparently come from two different parts of Stephanides’ own life and personality. While Brunson is just glad to get some more leading ladies on the TV.

Lastly, Hell Den is about a family plagued by demons who riff over public domain PSAS.
