Comic-Con@Home: Solar Opposites Q&A and Season 2 Clip

Solar Opposites has been one of the few shining lights of things that have come out of 2020. The series follows four alien Shlorpians finding sanctuary in suburban America after their homeworld was destroyed.

Season one released in May and was instantly “Hulu’s most-watched original comedy premiere to date”. The powers that be are already developing a second season. And, most recently, it was announced that Hulu has invested into a third season.

With all of the excitement around the freshly cropped series, it is the perfect time for the cast and creators to share a bit about their adventure and what we have to look forward to with new batch of episodes.

Thankfully, the amazing folks at Comic-Con International: San Diego have managed to find a way for fans to get all of the juicy details about their favourite shows without having to leave the house.

The Solar Opposites panel had a gold star beside it from most animation nerds as a must-watch and for good reason. The showcase brought in executive producers Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Rick and Morty) and Josh Bycel (Scrubs, American Dad) as well as cast members Justin Roiland (Rick and Morty), Thomas Middleditch (Bob’s Burgers), Sean Giambrone (The Goldbergs), and comedian Mary Mack. Additionally, the panel offered fans their first look at the upcoming second season.

In a move of generosity, the curator did not make us wait long to get our exclusive look into Solar Opposites season two. And the special treat delivered on a clever bit of Korvo and Terry trying best to figure out what to do with the replicants over summer vacation. Hilariously, they decide summer camp would be less destructive than killing them.

The remainder of the panel features these creatives answering some questions about season one and sharing some insight of what to expect for season two.

The word camp is bounced around a lot, but the show seems to be headed in the direction that the first season laid out. Serialized storylines like “The Wall” and keeping Pupa safe will remain as important targets for the show. Additionally, new ongoing plots are likely to enter the game as Bycel reveals that new groups of aliens will be creating a class structure within the series.

A few other tidbits about season two managed to leak out during the discussion. An episode about dinner parties can be expected. Something about hating the haters will also hopefully play a part. And, the “family” will branch out as Terry and Jesse will go on an adventure separate from Korvo and Yumyulack.

And, for the true fans, there is plenty of behind-the-scenes information on how Solar Opposites came to be.

Tidbits about casting and where some of these stories originate from are added bonuses for those who enjoy hearing about animation development. We also find out why Terry has such amazing t-shirts all of the time.

The only thing that doesn’t seem like a possibility for season two is a Rick and Morty crossover. Roiland confesses that the only way that would ever come to be is for the mega-corporations to merge into much larger mega-corporations.

Regardless, there seems to be every sign that season two maybe even better than the inaugural run. And, I hope they utilize the tossed around idea of having Terry and Korvo addicted to onions.

Season one of Solar Opposites is available to stream now on Hulu.
