Bubbleblabber’s Top Ten Adult Animated Series Of The Decade (2010-2019)

There is no publication as thorough as we are when it comes to adult animation. For nearly ten years now we’ve killed ourselves to bring you the most elite coverage in the industry, and we have no inclinations to stop for the next ten years. While other publications are still referring to adult animation as a “genre”, we recognize the industry. The industry is changing. At the beginning of 2010, we had no signs of “Rick and Morty”, Seth MacFarlane was dominating the adult animation industry with feature films and a number of original series, and Netflix was barely in the streaming industry, if at all. What will the next ten years bring? This year alone saw a shift in strategy, with networks not relying on the traditional comedic sitcom formats and instead watching as drama, horror, and sci-fi all started to come into focus. Even Japan, for years a pirated and subtitled mess in terms of distribution, is going streaming first and expensive home release second for it’s English dubbed adaptations. It’s a great time to be a fan, but let’s look back and see who the important players were for the last ten years.

10) Primal

Genndy Tartakovsky’s more mainstream works, like the Hotel Transylvania film series, have arguably seen the largest success. However, in a perfect world Primal would be his creation that receives the most acclaim. This is by far Tartakovsky’s most accomplished and mature piece of work. It’s encouraging to see that Adult Swim has maintained a healthy relationship with the creator. If he turns out something like this every other year they’ll have a serious bevy of sophisticated adult-oriented animation. Primal is a one-of-a-kind gem and a serious contender for the best animated program of 2019.
