Bubbleblabber’s Most Anticipated New Adult Animated Series For 2023

There are a TON of brand-new franchises on the way all over the map, and we’re sure that there are more that have yet to be announced for 2023. As such, here are the adult animated series we are most excited for that have been announced thus far.

Jon Hamm is fronting an animated comedy on FOX. I was sold just from the “Jon Hamm” part of it. We don’t know much about the rest of the cast just yet, but the premise sees Hamm take on the role of detective Marvin Flute who is trying to get his family back together. Bento Box and Boulder Media are producing the series which has already been renewed for a second season.

Krapopolis

KRAPOPOLIS: A new animated comedy that centers on a flawed family of humans, gods and monsters that tries to run one of the worldÕs first cities without killing each other. KRAPOPOLIS is set to premiere in 2022 on FOX. L-R: Hippocampus (Duncan Trussell), Shlub (Matt Berry), Tyrannis (Richard Ayoade), Deliria (Hannah Waddingham) and Stupendous (Pam Murphy). © 2021 by FOX Media LLC.

New Dan Harmon series premiered in 2022 called Little Demon that will rank high on our best series of the year in 2022 when we post the list next week, and I think 2023 will see another of Dan’s shows do very well. Already picked up for a second season by FOX, the Bento Box produced series is more “Springfield in Ancient Greece” that features a hell of a cast featuring the voices of Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham (“Ted Lasso”), Richard Ayoade (“The IT Crowd”), Matt Berry (“What We Do in The Shadows”), Pam Murphy (“Mapleworth Murders”) and Duncan Trussell (“The Midnight Gospel”). Other recurring cast includes Dove Cameron, Tara Strong, and guest cast like Will Forte, Susan Sarandon, Jane Lynch, and a bunch of others.

Royal Crackers

Network: Adult Swim

Adult Swim needs to build upon it’s half-hour library that, right now, is just Rick and Morty, and they hope they can double that from the same pool of FOX inkubators that they did with the aforementioned show’s creator Justin Roiland. Enter former Murder Police creator Jason Ruiz and his new series Royal Crackers.

Royal Crackers is a half-hour animated series that follows two brothers: Stebe, a family man with a wife and child; and Theo Jr., a single bass guitar player trying to relive his glory days. Together they live in their comatose father’s house waiting for him to die (he never does) so they can inherit his cracker company empire. Royal Crackers is created by Ruiz, who also serves as executive producer along with Seth Cohen. The series is produced by Titmouse and will premiere on Adult Swim in 2022.

Red Ketchup

Network: Adult Swim Canada

Red Ketchup is commissioned and greenlit by Corus’ French channel Télétoon la nuit, is based on the cult Quebec comic book series from the ‘80s of the same name. Featuring FBI’s crazed rogue agent, Steve “Red” Ketchup, the series will premiere in Canada in English on Adult Swim in 2023.

The series is set in the mid-1980s, at the end of the Cold War. Red Ketchup is assigned the most perilous missions by the FBI, and he pulls them off every time. The sight of his hulking frame, red eyes and orange hair is enough to make enemies quake. He breezily and brazenly takes every risk to achieve his ends, usually causing heavy collateral damage along the way. The FBI regards him as a liability and sends him to distant lands hoping he will never return. But Red Ketchup always makes it back!

Psi Cops

Network: Adult Swim Canada

Psi Cops, is set to premiere on Adult Swim Winter 2023. “Top” detectives Agent Kydd and Agent Felixx, of the secret agency Psi Cops, investigate spiritual phenomena, extraterrestrial life, and paranormal activity using their overly competent incompetence. Wind Sun Sky Entertainment and Oddfellows Labs are the producers.

The crucial task of investigating spiritual phenomena, extraterrestrial life, and paranormal activity is in the hands of unjustifiably bold and unnecessarily creative investigators Agent Kydd and Agent Felixx. Operating as part of the secret agency, Psi Cops, helmed by true believer, Chief Beef, we follow Kydd and Felixx as they investigate alleged sightings of aliens, ghosts, demons and other hocus-pocus bullsh*t.

Velma

Premieres: 1/12

Network: HBO MAX

For the record, I love the fact that Mindy is putting her own spin on the characters here. The concept of adult animation is to get people mad and talking about your series, and she’s doing all of the correct things to do just that.

VELMA is an adult animated comedy series telling the origin story of Velma Dinkley (Mindy Kaling), the unsung and underappreciated brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang. This original and humorous spin unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America’s most beloved mystery solvers.

Clone High

Network: HBO MAX

Technically it’s a reboot of a series that premiered over 20 years ago, but I’m willing to gander that the Phil/Miller producers are going to do some shit that’s going to refresh the franchise. I hope it’s not continued network meddling, and no I don’t mean from HBO MAX. In any event, Clone High will feature a stacked producing team that features Tara Billinger from Long Gone Gulch and features original series writer Erica Rivinoja as the showrunner.

Futurama

Network: Hulu

Set to premiere in 2023, Hulu has ordered a revival of legendary animated sitcom Futurama. The series is expected to return with Billy West, Katey Sagal, Tress MacNeille, Maurice LaMarche, Lauren Tom, Phil LaMarr, John DiMaggio and David Herman . Twenty episodes of David X. Cohen/Matt Groening series are on the way with Rough Draft Studios producing with 20th Television who is distributing in what will also feature a posthumous guest appearance from none other than Coolio.

Yes, I know this isn’t a “new” series…BUT, it’s been YEARS since we’ve had new episodes and THAT means something.

Exploding Kittens

Network: Netflix

Featuring Tom Ellis (Rush, Lucifer), Abraham Lim (Clickbait,The Boys), Lucy Liu (Shazam, Elementary), Ally Maki (Wrecked, Toy Story 4), Mark Proksch (What We Do In The Shadows, Better Call Saul) and Sasheer Zamata (Woke, Home Economics), this series has an impressive voice cast, but the biggest deal here is this is Mike Judge’s first foray into adult animation on Netflix and he’s doing so with an animated series inspired by a huge card game.

In the animated series, titled Exploding Kittens, the eternal conflict between Heaven and Hell reaches epic proportions when both God and the Devil are sent to Earth – in the bodies of chunky house cats.

Tomb Raider

Network: Netflix

Video game adaptations are becoming the defacto calling card for Netflix, and Tomb Raider hopes it can continue to help carry that card for the streamer.

Lara Croft, one of the video game world’s most iconic adventurers, makes her anime debut in an all new series. Picking up after the events of the highly successful Tomb Raider video-game reboot trilogy, the animated series will chart the globetrotting heroine’s latest, greatest adventure. Twenty-five years after her first game appeared, Lara continues to explore new territory.
