Bubble UK: Comedy Central UK Gets”TripTank”, and “LEGENDS”

One of them was probably expected, the other could be a way to ‘pave the road’ for another British acquisition of an American series.

Comedy Central UK has a rather impressive lineup of animated comedies, and it’s only going to get better. Joining existing animated comedies Bob’s Burgers and South Park will be TripTank and Legends of Chamberlain Heights.

Legends of Chamberlain Heights is already in production for a second season which should air sometime later this year. I think the more fascinating of the two acquisitions is by far TripTank. After two seasons and twenty episodes, Comedy Central wrapped the final episodes of the series in the graveyard shift which usually isn’t a good sign for animated franchises on Viacom networks. So either a third season could still happen, OR, Comedy Central UK is testing the waters for a potential call-up of the TripTank spin-off Jeff & Some Aliens which just premiered its first episode here in America on January 11th.

“Legends of Chamberlain Heights” is an urban animated series mixing raucous comedy and social commentary that centers on three high school freshman basketball benchwarmers: Jamal, Grover, and Milk. The three friends tackle life with some wins and some losses, but failure doesn’t faze them since they’re legends…even if it’s just in their own minds. “The Simpsons” veteran artist Brad Ableson developed the original concept with Quinn Hawking, Josiah Johnson, Mike Clements and Michael Starrbury. Former UCLA Bruin basketball players, Hawking and Johnson used their own legendary benchwarming experience to provide inspiration for the main characters.
“TripTank” showcases a wide range of fast-paced, hard-hitting animated comedy shorts presented in an anthology style, weaving together stand-alone and recurring narrative pieces. Executive produced by ShadowMachine’s Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico, “TripTank” features a variety of mind-bending animation styles, featuring a broad range of formats including 2D, stop-motion and CGI. Season one favorites ‘Suck It Gary,’ ‘Ricky the Rocketship,’ ‘Bethiffer,’ ‘Jeff & Some Aliens’ and ‘Animal Hitman’ returned for season two, which also introduced ‘Rest Assured,’ created by Mike Clattenberg (“Black Jesus”), among hundreds of other animated shorts. Voice talent this past season included Amy Schumer, Britanny Snow, Margaret Cho, Jemaine Clement, David Cross, Andrew Dice Clay, Key & Peele, Kristen Johnston, Cheryl Hines, Nick Swardson and Niecy Nash.
