BUBBLE CAN Review: Knuckleheads “PowerCop”

After taking a trip back in time last week on Knuckleheads, the show skipped back ahead in time to the present day, only this time, this gave us a taste of what our future could be. Knuckleheads have been on a roll since it premiered a few months ago. It’s probably my favorite show on Adult Swim Canada at the moment, I hope it gains ground with mainstream viewers down the road. But how was last night’s episode? Read on to find out!

In “PowerCop” When Ray is seriously injured by the leader of a motorcycle gang, a life-saving operation turns him into a super-cop who’s half-man, half-robot. Now that he’s Powercop, Roger’s going to try to rid the city of the Pussy Rider Crew.
Last night’s episode wasn’t that great for me. It sort of fell into the same hole that has in some previous episodes. Choosing to focus on one character instead of embracing its strengths as an ensemble, a little weak in the joke department. It did serve as a nice parody of RoboCop and even a bit of the Million Dollar Man, but overall this is probably one of the weaker episodes for Knuckleheads.

Now don’t get me wrong, I still enjoyed the episode a lot. But they’ve set the bar high for themselves after putting out great episode after great episode, eventually, something was bound to fall short of expectations.

Some things that the episode did do right was throwing enough at us to keep us entertained. There wasn’t very much downtime, and this can be taken as a positive or a negative, for me I look at it as a positive because, in a show intended to make us laugh in a short period of time, too much time between jokes can be unpleasant. There was also some cool action sequences in this episode also.

Overall, this wasn’t what I’ve come to expect from Knuckleheads. They brought an interesting concept to the table but failed to do very much worthwhile with is. Not the best outing for Knuckleheads, but I don’t doubt they’ll bounce back.
