With no Rick and Morty to speak of this year, WarnerMedia had to rely mostly on its Cartoon Network brands to carry most of the heavy-lifting for nominations. The lone Adult Swim nomination was for Robot Chicken (Why Is It Wet?“) in “Outstanding Short Form Animation” with Steven Universe (“Reunited”and other Cartoon Network series getting nominations as well in various other categories.

Bob’s Burgers is clearly showing it’s the future bankable franchise for a FOX network looking to build additional franchises for the future on top of this show and that continues with an Emmy nomination for “Just One of the Boyz 4 Now” which you can read our review for here.

The Simpsons had a very strong 30th season for FOX and it shows. Hank Azaria was nominated for best voice-over performance for his role as “Moe” and the series was nominated for an Emmy for the episode “Mad About the Toy” which premiered earlier this year and you can read our review for here.

Family Guy showed no nominations in “Outstanding Animated Program”, but did get two “Voice-over Performance” nominations for Alex Borstein (“Lois”) and Seth MacFarlane (“rest of the cast”) and deservedly so.

Netflix’s increased investment of adult animation continues to pay in dividends as multiple series from the streaming service is up for Emmy nominations. Big Mouth (“The Planned Parenthood Show”) and BoJack Horseman (“Free Churro”) each earned a nom in “Outstanding Animated Program” while “The Witness” from Love Death & Robots scored one for “Outstanding Short-Form Animated Program”. Last, but not least, Kevin Michael Richardson scores a nomination for his role as “Rosie” in the hit series F is for Family.

It’s weird that Star Wars Resistance, which typically airs Sunday nights is nominated for “Outstanding Children’s Series” while the likes of Sesame Street, Adventure Time, Teen Titans Go, Spongebob Squarepants, and others get nominations for primetime categories with those series typically airing in the middle of the afternoon or, in some cases, early in the morning on Sundays.
