Branding Changes: FOX, TBS, and Comedy Central Make Slight Alterations To Prime-Time Animation Blocks

TBS has opted to remove it’s “Animation Situation” branding after less than a month. The lineup was meant to highlight that featured a marathon of Family Guy episodes, new episodes of American Dad, and syndicated episodes of Final Space season three that had previously aired on sister network Adult Swim. The schedule itself doesn’t appear to be going anywhere, with the 18th season of American Dad ongoing and with additional seasons having already been ordered, That said, Family Guy is slated to drop off of TBS’ lineup by Fall 2021.

Meanwhile, rival network Comedy Central has also changed it’s branding of it’s daytime animation lineup. Now known as Ani-Melt-Down, this follows other brandings the network has toyed around with including “Animation Contamination“, “Animation Staycation”, and others, but really it’s just branding syndicated programming from the likes of The Cleveland Show, Futurama, and South Park.

Last, but not least, FOX may have found a name for the debut of it’s Animation Domination lineup of new original programming coming Memorial Day 2021. It’s called Animation Domination…Continuation, and this new promo for upcoming series Housebroken seems to have let slip of the new branding that will also include a new season of Duncanville which was recently renewed for a third season. This comes off the news that FOX Entertainment’s Tubi AVOD service will have original animation in production to be released via Bento Box, so it will be curious to see if FOX does anything else with that branding extension or if there could be another one entirely, perhaps a return of Animation Domination Hi-Def?

A key reason why FOX may want to differentiate the Sunday and Monday night lineups of Animation Domination is because the branded-toon block has been a staple for decades on Sunday nights for the network, it would be easy to confuse viewers that the new programming will debut on Sunday Nights. For Duncanville that’s true as the series actually returns on May 23rd before making it’s Monday night move the following week. FOX’s Sunday night lineup will be mostly reruns with the exception of the final episodes of Bless the Harts which happens on June 6th and June 20th respectively. After those stop airing, reruns of Duncanville and Housebroken will go to Sunday night.
