Aaron McGruder, the Peabody Award-winning creator of The Boondocks, will be producing a new show for Adult Swim, the network announced Tuesday.

After a successful four-season run for The Boondocks, McGruder will move to a live-action format for an action-adventure series called Hooligan Squad

The plot revolves around an American insurgency in Japanese-occupied San Francisco and is set in the not-too-distant future.

LEG’s Norman Aladjem and R&G Productions’ Steven Tzirlin will executive produce with McGruder, who will write the first episode.

“With The Boondocks and the upcoming Black Jesus series, we consider Aaron very instrumental in the success of Adult Swim, and this deal is the continuation of a great partnership,” said Mike Lazzo, Executive VP and Creative Director at Adult Swim.

“It’s a rare thing to have a network home,” McGruder said. “Even more rare is a home that wants to see you grow and expand as a creator. Adult Swim is headed to new horizons, and I’m happy to be along for the ride.”
