Matt Groening is getting back into comics! Less than a year after he shut down Bongo Comics which housed such titles as Futurama, The Simpsons, and more, the creator of Netflix’s hit animated series Disenchantment is getting ready to launch a digital-only series sometime in 2020 via his new imprint Bapper Books. In conjunction with this announcement, Bapper Books will be at San Diego Comic-Con at booth #2519 giving away Disenchantment-inspired t-shirts, plushes, and a whole lot more. More merch inspired by the series will be made available on the Bapper website through the rest of the year time with the show’s continuation of its first season coming to Netflix this fall.

From the mind of Matt Groening, comes the 10-episode adult animated comedy fantasy series, Disenchantment. In Disenchantment, viewers will be whisked away to the crumbling medieval kingdom of Dreamland, where they will follow the misadventures of hard-drinking young princess Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

The series features the voice talents of Abbi Jacobson (“Bean”), Eric Andre (“Luci”), and Nat Faxon (“Elfo”) along with John DiMaggio, Billy West, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille, David Herman, Matt Berry, Jeny Batten, Rich Fulcher, Noel Fielding, and Lucy Montgomery.

Last, but not least, longtime creator of worlds MAD Magazine appears to be shuttering after 67 years. While no official announcement has been made, writers and editors from the publication are sending out dour swan songs for the print publication that will soon be bi-monthly and not feature any new content being produced for the future.

The MAD franchise has been referred to as being instrumental in the development of careers of such notable figures as Howard Stern, Jerry Seinfeld, and of course all of the former MADtv cast and crew members like Key & Peele, Alex Bornstein, and others. The publication will sorely be missed.
