Bigfoot Q&A: K. Trevor Wilson Talks Shane Gillis, “The Simpsons”, And His Hairy New Role

John Schwarz: How did you come to work on Bigfoot?
K. Trevor Wilson: It was actually a long audition process, a bunch of talented people in the running for this role. I lucked out and had the voice they were looking for
Were you familiar with Graham’s work before taking on the part and are you a fan of any particular works of his?
I was not if I’m being honest, but now I am a very big fan of his work.
How did you approach the role of Bigfoot, what were some attributes that you wanted to be sure the character had that made the role interesting to play?
The character of Bigfoot is so layered and complex, he is really fun to voice. My actual biggest concerns of playing him were not sounding too much like a “caveman” character with the broken speech at a time.
What were some of your favorite scenes to record and which episodes really stood out to you after you had viewed the finished product?
My personal favorite episode to record was the one with Steven Page, we were in the booth together and he was singing his dialogue to me so it
was like getting a private concert from a man who is a personal hero.
What can fans expect from the show?
Sheer lunacy. It is over the top comedy done in the best way leading to pure hilarity
Are you a fan of cartoons? If so what are some of your favorites?
I love cartoons, working in this field has been a goal of mine for a while. I’m a huge fan of Venture Bros., The Tick, Adventure Time, Futurama, Simpson’s, Family Guy, Sealab 2020. You name the cartoon I probably loved it
A lot of really great cartoons are coming in from Canada as of late, Corner Gas, LetterKenny, and the Trailer Park Boys all checked in. How does it feel to be a part of that wave of homegrown content?
Canada has always been a hub for great animation so I’m very happy to add to that tradition. I hope this show runs for a long time.
As a stand-up comedian. What is your take on where the community is now in terms of jokes and where you can take your act? You hear terms like “politically correct”, what’s that like for you in both Canada and America where free speech is being challenged and jokes being taken out of context?
I’ve always been of the belief that if you’re going to be dirty, you’d better be smart about it. Political Correctness is nothing new, neither is uninformed outrage, what’s changed is the ability of the average person to voice their opinions. You can still say and do whatever you want, just as long as you are willing to live with the consequences.
Was SNL correct in letting Shane Gillis go?
Absolutely, it’s their show, and they decide who gets to represent them. You have no guarantees in this business and if you do something that the show does not agree with and they fire you, that’s the business. They’ve fired better comedians for less.
Do you think Apu should be removed from The Simpsons?
No, I don’t, but I also don’t have a stake in that. I can see why others could have a problem with the character, it’s a white guy doing a brown guy, I get how in today’s world that’s a problem.
Bigfoot is streaming now on VRV/Mondo
