BET+ Developing “Krack Babies” Animated Comedy Series From Patricia Williams
BET+ seems to be taking adult animation rather seriously in a methodical approach. You may remember last year when we mentioned that BET+ was developing an animated adaptation of the superhero animated series Trill League, now we get news from Deadline that the streaming service is re-teaming with the hilarious Patricia Williams for a new adult animated comedy entitled Krack Babies.
This new deal stems from the Ms. Pat titular star’s overall development deal with BET and is inspired by her upbringing in 1980s Atlanta. Reg Tigerman (of Tigerman management who manages Patricia), Williams, and Starburns Industries are producing what’s being described as Hey Arnold! but for adults. The reported show description from Deadline is as follows:
Atlanta is a crazy place for kids to grow up, the streets around Corn Ridge apartment in Little Five Points are full of dealers and liquor houses. When you’re not at school you’re hustling, doing things like selling clothes you steal from the Goodwill. Growing up there was hard, but you figure out how to make it through.
The kids attend classes at Jim Crow Elementary, try to hustle for a better life, and keep each other out of, while somehow still talking each other into, trouble. The system might fail you, but if the people stuck in the system all support each other, there’s a chance you can make it out together.
Our Take
Having been a kid raised on food stamps and welfare I’m looking forward to seeing how Krack Babies develops. We don’t have enough television pointing out the fallacies of American culture from different vantage points and this series sounds like its in the right direction.
Hi Ashley, thank you so much for reading and we love the feedback. Note that on that day we had 14th posts go up and only ten posts show on the front page, so it's possible the preview had already been archived by the time you got to it. One recommendation would be to add our RSS feed to your favorite news aggregator service like Feedly, this way you get all of the latest posts!
