“Avenue Q” Puppets To Be Entered Into The Smithsonian
Washington, DC is getting a new avenue.
Avenue Q is slated to close forever later this month on Broadway after 16 years, but that doesn’t mean your favorite non-sensical parents are going to never be seen again. Quite the opposite, in fact, as it is being reported that Rick Lyon’s puppets from Avenue Q will be part of the National Museum of American History at the Smithsonian in the Popular Entertainment section. Puppets Kate Monster, Nicky and Rod will all be made part of the display that features other legendary puppets like Kermit the Frog which makes for a prestigious company.
AVENUE Q is the fresh and funny tale of 20-somethings just out of college who move to the city with big dreams and tiny bank accounts, with puppets and people living as neighbors on a rundown street in NYC. Read our review of the show here.
The final Avenue Q performance will be May 26 at New World Stages (340 W. 50 St.) in Manhattan. For those that don’t want to trek to DC to check out the display, Broadway Design Exchange has a bunch of Avenue Q items up for sale that you can purchase and then just keep at home.
