“Archer” Renewed For 12th Season Following Over 30% Increase In Viewership

Who says cable TV is dead? FXX has announced that they have renewed Archer for a 12th season with an announced 32% increase in the ratings averaging near 2.5 million viewers per episode. The network claims it has to do with the plot of this season reverting back to the good ol’ days of Archer’s spy missions, and while that might have a little bit to do with it, we’ve got a different theory.

Our Take

In any other year, Archer would’ve premiered back in May of 2020 and ten brand-new episodes of South Park would’ve aired this Fall for Comedy Central at the Wednesday @ 10 pm ET slot. Because of COVID-19, South Park has mustered “The Pandemic Special” which has had it’s own ratings success, but no more episodes have aired since then which has left the void left wide open for Archer to benefit at that same time slot. Creatively, this has also been a stellar season for Sterling and Co., a real return to form despite Adam Reed’s absence in the writer’s room.

Synopsis:

The suave, confident and devastatingly handsome Sterling Archer may be the world’s greatest spy, but he still has issues with his friends and colleagues who live to undermine and betray one another. Whether set in 1940s Los Angeles, the jungles of South America or the dangerous islands of the South Pacific, “Archer,” this animated comedy spans time and place to navigate Sterling, Lana, Malory, Cheryl/Carol/Charlotte, Cyril, Pam, Ray and Krieger’s misguided misadventures that range from attempting to save the world from nuclear disaster to selling illegal narcotics to Colombian cartels.
