Aqua Teen to Say Good Bye after a Decade on Adult Swim

After ten years, the Aqua Teen Hunger Force franchise follows in the latest trend of Adult Swim classic shows that are being weeded out in favor of new franchises with the announcement that Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever will embark on its final season on Adult Swim starting June 21st, @ Midnight ET/PT. A press release from Adult Swim details some of the last episodes:

In this latest installment of the fantastic adventures of Meatwad, Master Shake, Frylock and Carl, a court ruling has made divorce illegal in America. Heavily-armed, unhappy couples across the continent are tearing each other apart, and it’s up to Aqua Teen Hunger Force Forever to give them the marriage counseling they need. Getting completely nude and replacing their bodies with shape-shifting liquid metal, the Aqua Teens travel through time to try and mend frayed marriages. Along the way, they must follow a recipe and prepare an unfamiliar dish, with a cast of celebrity chefs judging their every move. Prepare yourself for mediated arguments, crying children and burnt food!

As mentioned, this is just the latest Adult Swim franchise to get the shaft after a long run with Metalocalypse getting hit a few weeks ago. This one hurts maybe a little more though, as when I think of Adult Swim, I think of Aqua Teen. Every year at Comic Cons, you can almost guarantee seeing a Master Shake costume, and what this means for the future of Carl’s NFL Picks is uncertain.  In any case, Adult Swim is clearly saying good bye to the classics in favor of ushering new franchises like Rick and Morty, China IL, and more. Adult Swim’s Upfronts 2015 presentation is in a few weeks, perhaps announcements will be made to fill the void left behind by Aqua Teen, though I doubt anything will be able to fill the void left in my heart.

We do however, have a new trailer from Adult Swim, and you can see it below:
