AnimeNYC 2018 Recap: Funimation

A staple in large cons: Funimation is here.

If you can think of one series that’s massively popular outside of Japan, after all this time, it has to be Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z Super, the sequel to the main series, is still making waves, and the audience was pumped up for a new announcement. A brand-new movie, Dragon Ball Z Super: Super Broly, will be coming to theaters very soon. Broly is back and the Superteam has a new take on him. The trailer shows him facing off against Vegeta, Frieza, and Goku, and seeming to overwhelm all three with his newfound power. The movie will debut on January 16th, and theater list is currently being generated.

An old classic, Eureka Seven, is back with a brand new movie in the Hi-Evolution trilogy, Anemone: Eureka Seven: Hi – Evolution. The announcement thrilled eager fans everywhere, leaving people wanting to hear more about a series that for many, was part of their budding anime experience. Unfortunately, the details of this movie coming outside of Japan are still a little shaky, as key details have yet to be finalized for a worldwide release. There will be plans for the movie to come out of Japan, but those are still being decided.

They also showed a trailer for the One Piece movie 3D2Y, that details one of the adventures of Luffy that took place while he was training post-Marineford, during the time skip. This will be out on DVD, fully dubbed and subbed, come February.

They also detailed their Blu-ray/DVD releases for the upcoming months, including:

November: Garo, Blood Blockade Battlefront, Tales of the Abyss, King’s Game, Sister’s All You Need, Regalia, Black Clover, Kino’s Journey, One Piece Collection 5, Starblazers, Cowboy Bebop
