A&E Cancels “Akil The Fugitive Hunter”

In a surprising turn of events, A&E has canceled Akil The Fugitive Hunter after only one season, and only really a couple of episodes in.

“Akil the Fugitive Hunter,” combines live-action and animation to chronicle the journey of modern-day superhero Akil Muhammad as he tracks and captures some of the most elusive criminals in Los Angeles in order to keep his community safe. Narrated by actor and activist Wood Harris (“The Wire”), the 10 episode half-hour series featured original animation from influential animator Carl Jones (“Black Dynamite”) and original music from multiplatinum singer and producer Ty Dolla $ign, who also serves as executive music producer for the series.

Akil Muhammad released the following statement regarding the future of the series:

@aetv has opted not to air the remaining episodes of Akil The Fugitive Hunter at this time. Thank you to all the supporters of the show. As you know, with most superhero stories, just when you think the villain has gotten the best of them, they return BIGGER and STRONGER than before. Continue to be on the look out for Akil in the future. He has a way of showing up when you least expect it. TO BE CONTINUED……

A&E has a few shows like this, but I think the network prefers to see black people behind bars as opposed to in front of them helping the community i.e. Dog the Bounty Hunter. Fans are already pissed that this show was taken off the air with numerous calls on social media for the series to be picked up by another network.

The aforementioned Carl Jones is working with Tyler the Creator on a new series called The Jellies which is set to drop any day now as well as Lazor Wulf which is already showing its pilot at Adult Swim Presents.
