Adult Swim picks up Mr. Pickles and Mike Tyson Mysteries for second seasons…but changes should be made on both

Adult Swim has announced that they are indeed picking up second seasons for freshmen animated series’ Mr. Pickles and Mike Tyson Mysteries however despite the fact that both shows are quality, there are definitely some things we want to see in both programs that I think could take both to the stratosphere.

Let’s start off with Mr. Pickles. The Hot House produced series was pretty damn good in its first season on Adult Swim and I’m looking forward to seeing more…a lot more. As in I think this show should almost take a step back and soothe the frenetic pace that ordinarily comes from the show and maybe add another 10-minutes of run-time. This could really set the table for some good A-B plots that could really flesh out. I think the producers have the capabilities to fuck with us just a bit more, not just with violence, but with story telling. There are more stories to tell with Pickles, and I think we are barely scratching the surface on the type of shit Mr. Goodman and co. can give us. Add in Tommy acting like a lovable buffoon and Grandpa acting like the Dick Tracy no one asked for. And by far and away the Sheriff is the most entertaining Sheriff on Adult Swim.

Next up is Mike Tyson Mysteries. Overall, the show is pretty funny, and I think the last episode before the break for the season was a turning point. Pigeon is usually who the series relies on for jokes that need someone who know how to deliver a killer punch line…Norm MacDonald can do that. Tyson knows how to deliver knockouts, and he has a bunch of funny dialogue, but it’s more adorable than anything. Like ‘Oh Mike’ type stuff. Producer Hugh Davidson needs to turn up the volume on jokes, add in some music composition, and give us some better mysteries. Maybe some arcs. Give me a reason to tune in every Sunday Night, and I’ll be happy.

What do you guys think, was Adult Swim green lighting second seasons for both of these shows the right move?
