Adult Swim Declares War On Netflix-Orders Second Season Of “Tuca & Bertie”

In a move that should shock the adult animation world, Adult Swim has ordered a 10-episode second season of the Netflix critically-acclaimed series, Tuca & Bertie. The series will see Ali Wong and Tiffany Haddish returning to reprise their titular roles. The new season is slated to drop sometime in 2021.

Netflix will keep hold of the show’s first season, but season two of Tuca & Bertie will be later available on HBO MAX which is launching next week.

Our Take

First thing’s first, holy shit. Second, maybe the producers of Tuca & Bertie can make a deal for Adult Swim to at least get the linear rights to the show’s first season much in the same way Comedy Central featured BoJack Horseman. Speaking of BoJack Horseman…does the sister series have a pathway to a second life? If Tuca & Bertie smashes hard for Adult Swim, a network that could use more half-hours following the exodus of numerous 20th Century FOX series could be a boon and a reclamation for the network to win some battles against streaming services that have been poaching the channel’s talent i.e. CBS All Access, Hulu, and Quibi.

Synopsis:

Tuca & Bertie is an animated comedy series about the friendship between two 30-year-old bird women who live in the same apartment building: Tuca (Tiffany Haddish), a cocky, care-free toucan, and Bertie (Ali Wong), an anxious, daydreaming songbird. Lisa Hanawalt (BoJack Horseman) created the series, which consists of 10-episodes for its first season. Hanawalt is an executive producer alongside Raphael Bob-Waksberg (BoJack Horseman), Noel Bright (BoJack Horseman, Friends), Steven A. Cohen (BoJack Horseman, Jack & Bobby), Tiffany Haddish and Ali Wong.
