ABC to air Toy Story 20th Anniversary Special

It looks like ABC is going a different direction with its retrospectives post that shitty Charlie Brown Christmas one that aired the other night, because the network has announced that next Thursday @ 8 pm ET/PT they will be airing  a Toy Story 20th Anniversary Special. According to a press release:

ABC will air a tribute to the Pixar Animation Studios film that ushered in a new era of computer generated animation. The special will take a look at how Pixar’s early beginnings making short, digitally-animated films lead them to take the bold step of making the first feature length computer animated film, “Toy Story.” Producers, animators, technical artists, designers and some of the film’s voice talent will discuss making the film and the impact it has had over the years, spawning two sequels, with a new installment, “Toy Story 4,” on the way. “Toy Story 20th Anniversary” will be executive produced and directed by Brad Lachman of Brad Lachman Productions in conjunction with Pixar Animation Studios.

How come when people talk about Pixar, they don’t remember Steve Jobs? Steve was just as important to Pixar as he was to Apple in helping build a company and a brand, and I hope that we get to see some sort of a thank you to one of the greatest entrepreneurs of this century as a result.

Needless to say, Pixar opened the doors for a different take on animated film. Before Toy Story you had movies like Lion King and Beauty and the Beast and as the technology became cheaper for the CG-animated films, the hand-drawn stuff kinda went away and now you see it mostly on TV.

I actually know a 30-year old dude that cried at the end of Toy Story 3…true story he got all upset that Andy left.
