2007’s The Simpsons Game is the last Simpsons inspired game to be released on console.  The action platformer was written by show writers Tim Long, Matt Selman, and Matt Warburton, for which they were nominated for a Writers Guild of America Award.  The self-referential game follows the Simpsons aware that they are being forced to be inside yet another video game and set out to find Matt Groening in order to stop the madness.  There are also appearances from Futurama’s Bender and Dr. Zoidberg and cutscenes that look identical to the TV series.  Despite all of the detail that went into the games development reception was mixed with criticisms about the gameplay and camera system.  A planned sequel to the game was inevitably cancelled, and The Simpsons have yet to return to a console game.
