A “Family Guy” Live-Action Film Would Be A Nightmare And Other Things We Learned From The WSJ Report

Have we gone mad?

The Wall Street Journal reported the other day that among the films on the 20th Century FOX film slate that currently are in question post a merger with Disney-FOX, which has been going swimmingly I might add, is that the studios will have decisions to make on three projects inspired by the Sunday Night lineup currently airing on FOX, that being The Simpsons, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy.

We already knew that a Bob’s Burgers movie was in the works, creator Loren Bouchard was mum about it during Comic-Con but did get a little insight, and a sequel to The Simpsons Movie has been discussed ever since the first one was a smash hit. But then we were hit with the possibility of a live-action/animated Family Guy movie and now we’re in trouble. Reports of a Family Guy movie have been around for a while as well, but a live-action hybrid sounds like it would be all sorts of wrong. I get it, Seth MacFarlane did a great job blending those two worlds with Ted, but Family Guy? No, thanks.

You wanna make a Family Guy movie? Do what The Simpsons did. A longer episode that wouldn’t fit within the confines of a 22-minute run on a Sunday Night with an original premise and some laughs. From the sounds of it, the Bob’s Burgers movie is doing this, and a sequel to The Simpsons Movie would be killer, but get that news about a Family Guy live-action film off my property, please.

Fortunately, all of the TV shows are coming back September 30th on FOX.
